Smiths walked out of the operating room. The procedure went off without a hitch.

Howard breathed a sigh of relief, “How long for recovery?”

“A couple of hours tops, Elisa will be none the wiser,” Smiths added.

“And you’re sure that chip will activate his Pineal Nexus?”

“When the time is right,” Smiths insisted.

Smiths had just finished inserting a nanochip into the back of Howard’s son’s brain in a little known region called the Pineal Nexus. It is a small region but rich in activity that scientists could not unravel.

“And what of the girl?” Howard asked.

“It took a bit more convincing, especially since she is two years old,” Smiths added.

“What did it take?”

“Quarter million and lifetime employment with Morning Star Industries.”

“Is that all?” Howard scoffed.

Smiths watched as Eli began to stir in the neonatal bed. Could this boy really be my human replacement? Smiths pondered. Could his brain handle the quantum possibilities? Smiths shook his head as he recalled the second half of the equation. That’s what she’s for. We can’t afford to loose the Seer, but her? She’s expendable.
